Homeopathy & Pneumonia

Pneumonia is an infection of the air space and sacs of the lungs. When affected by pneumonia, the spongy tissues of the lungs become solidified. When the doctor taps on the chest, he listens for a "solid" instead of a "hollow sound. To confirm the diagnosis, a chest x-ray is required.

Pneumonia is infectious and can spread from person to person. Pneumococcus, or other types of bacteria, or viruses can cause pneumonia. The most common type of pneumonia is caused by a virus. This form of pneumonia is called atypical or viral pneumonia. The lower respiratory tract such as the bronchial tubes, bronchioles and lungs, and the upper respiratory tract such as the nose, throat, tonsils, sinuses, trachea and larynx are affected.

When the immune system is weakened, it allows viral, bacterial, and other infections to occur. Be on the guard after the onset of a cold, or during an attack of influenza, measles, or chicken-pox.

If the disease affects one or more lobes of the lungs, it is called lobar pneumonia. Lobar pneumonia is an inflammation of the lobes. In lobar pneumonia, a person starts with a slight fever and is suddenly taken over by chills, and sharp stabbing pains in the chest.

Bronchopneumonia is an inflammation involving small patchy areas of lung tissue of the bronchi. It comes as a complication of bronchitis, grippe, or influenza.

Since, there are several different kinds of pneumonia, pneumonia may occur more than once in the same individual.

The most common symptoms of pneumonia are high fever, coughing, sharp chest pain, difficult breathing, rapid pulse, thick, yellowish-green phlegm streaked with blood, and a shaking chill.

Homeopathy in Practice

When pneumonia produces sputum, it indicates that the lungs are getting rid of toxin secretion. This reactive process should not be suppressed. Doing so may lead to a more serious internal disease.

Conventional medicine uses antibiotics to treat bacterial pneumonia. Antibiotics are used to kill bacteria. Antibiotics can't tell the difference between good bacteria and bad bacteria. Good bacteria is essential to protect the body from the not so good bacteria. When we destroy good bacteria, we allow the bad bacteria to take over. As various strains of bad bacteria mutate, they become resistant to medicine. The overuse of antibiotics will cause disease-resistant bacteria.
