Hemorrhoids (Piles)
Hemorrhoids, commonly known as piles, are various
swellings of blood vessels situated inside or outside
the anal sphincter. Straining to help move a bowel
may cause veins to break down and their valves to
become incompetent.
There are three types of hemorrhoids: External, internal,
and combined.
External hemorrhoids are blue coloured, painful dilations
at, or near the muscle ring that closes the lower end of
the bowel.
Internal hemorrhoids are situated inside the anus. If they
protrude through the anus, they are known as protruded
hemorrhoids. If blood vessels break and bleed until the
blood clots, they are called bleeding hemorrhoids.
Combined hemorrhoids are the combination of the two.
Complication of internal and external hemorrhoids may
lead to the general prolapses of the entire anorectal area.
Hemorrhoids become painful when the blood in a dilated
vein becomes clotted. The most common symptoms of
hemorrhoids are swelling, itching, a feeling of tightness
during a bowel movement, and bleeding of bright red blood
at defecation
The most common causes of hemorrhoids are chronic
constipation, a lack of fluids in the diet, pregnancy, a
sedentary lifestyle, overweight, and insufficient roughage.
Secondary infection caused from fungi causes severe
itching, to the point, people scratch and tear the tissues
